DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced Programmer to design, develop and support variable print solutions under the CustomPoint platform. Responsibilities will include requirements analysis, scope documentation, design and programming of VDP documents. Additional duties will include internal and external user support.

Work with customers, business analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the solution support on our CustomPoint platform. Support IT strategies and comply with the organization’s architectural standards. Involved in implementation and on-going support activities for customers. Responsible for configuring, testing, implementing, maintaining and supporting critical customer requirements. May participate in component and data architecture design, performance monitoring, and product evaluation.

Work is typically performed under minimal daily supervision, receiving guidance from manager/supervisor about the work that needs to be completed. Able to exercise high level of discretion and latitude in completing tasks. Must be able to demonstrate application of skills and knowledge at the depth and scope required for the position. Must be able to apply learned functional job methodologies and processes in the completion of work assignments. Understand impact job has on the organization.

* Coding: Provides thorough internal program and support documentation. Use available utilities to simplify tasks. Use existing administrative tools to configure and support development. Primary focus is template development in PageFlex. Some HTML, scripting may be required.
* Testing: Develop or maintain system and system integration test plans. Develop system test data and performs system, integration, parallel and stress tests as needed for projects. Coordinate user acceptance testing for all templates. Assist quality assurance testing teams for major CustomPoint releases as needed.
* Communication: Participate on customer facing calls as needed. Provide input to peers, management and customers for recommendations and alternate solutions and/or improvements to their user interface. Convey problems, solutions, updates and project status to their peers, customers and management. Develop and maintains customer and user documentation as needed.
* Documentation: Responsible for updating on-line help manuals, user manuals, operations documentation and FAQs for customers and internal teams.
* Planning/Process Management: Function as technical resource on appropriate projects throughout the project stages, when on-boarding variable digital print projects for customers. Follows direction and meets published milestones for assigned projects. Actively participates in post-implementation review.
* Provide 2nd level Help Desk support for VDP items.
* Provide support for miscellaneous maintenance and enhancement requests to customer templates.
* Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

* Bachelor degree in discipline related to functional work or role with 3-5 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
* 2-5 years experience in developing variable print documents using Bitstream Pageflex application, or similar system (IE – VIPP).
* Must have a solid knowledge of print production processes and back end systems. Experience with prepress tools and techniques are a must. (Quark, Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, Postscript etc.) Experience with direct mail is beneficial.
* Must be able to demonstrate a very good understanding of the information technology environment/infrastructure utilized for the job and be able to identify and resolve moderately complex challenges associated with the work.
* Must have very good knowledge and understanding of the assigned information technology platform and make recommendations for improvements to the technology.
* Able to interpret moderately complex and detailed business specifications and make suggestions that provide workable solutions to development project of moderate complexity.
* Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand. Must be able to effectively interface with all levels of the organization, including customers.
* Must be able to proactively listen to others to understand issues and situations. Must be able to clearly articulate business needs to both internal and external customers.
* Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities, without losing site of key deliverable dates.
* Strong PC skills are required.
* Experience with HTML, XML, and web design is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of basic scripting concepts and languages is also highly desirable. Knowledge of data and database concepts is a plus.
