DESCRIPTION
Operation of presses in various degrees of size and complexity in order to obtain maximum production according to established quality standards. Responsibilities
* Ensures that production goals are met. * Directs or assists in directing the crew. * Obtains and maintains register during the make-ready and productions processes. * Assists in changing required plates, blankets or cylinders. * Assists in lining up ribbons, setting fold, adjusting roll mechanisms, tension and guide devices. * Assists with training of new crewmembers. * Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out - tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies. * Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned. * It is the responsibility of all Solution Delivery employees to follow the requirements of their documented process as defined in the ISO Quality Manual. * 1. Running press – 1. Directs and controls all crew activities during running, personally performing many of the critical activities. 2. Personally performs and directs crewmembers in adjusting these elements. Sees that color adjustments are made after obtaining the original color OK from the Supervisor. 3. Consistently checks overall print quality during the run. 4. Shuts down the press when quality is not up to standards and takes corrective action notifying the Supervisor if additional help is needed. 5. Recommends to the Supervisor the ordering, remaking, or rechroming of cylinders due to wear and tear of defective cylinders. 6. Keeps constant check on production to insure proper counts for special runs or deliveries 7. Cooperates with Supervisor in running sample signatures or “Office Copies.” 8. Performs all necessary operations to stop or start a press. 9. Flags and removes any bad signatures which are spoiled due to press variables. 10. Responsible for filling out all pertinent information on the move ticket, including Press Operator’s employee number. 11. Notifies Supervisor when defective materials or equipment prevent the printing of RRD quality. 12. Operates all ancillary equipment attached to press such as trimmers, conveyors, feeders, imprinters, and stackers. 13. Checks material handler activities and performance to assure delivered signatures are properly inspected, jogged, and piled on platforms. 14. Understanding of when and how to obtain and record information in the machine interface module of Data Merge Press. 15. Ability to use machine interface and/or report builder to run operational and production reports. 16. Ability to interpret reports.
2. Make-ready and Clean Press – 1. Directs all crew activities during make-ready and cleanup operations. 2. Checks new forms delivered to the press with the job ticket, print order and related AITs. 3. Prepares Press make-ready sheet. 4. Assures proper roll stock and ink are used. 5. Makes certain reel and folder adjustments are made. 6. Analyzes and interprets various color, register, folder, pressure, and doctor blade settings during make-ready. 7. Presents the Supervisor with a trimmed signature to final size as a trim OK. 8. Sends signatures to proofreading when starting the run. 9. Checks for proper lap marker. 10. Notifies the Supervisor when a color match has been achieved. 11. Handles hazardous chemicals/waste.
3. Maintenance of – 1. Continually inspects the press and additional equipment for proper working operation and sees that repairs are made, notifying the Supervisor if any additional help is needed. 2. Responsible for completion of daily and quarterly lubrication of the press. 3. Sees that preventative maintenance checks are made and rectify any potential problems that could hinder the optimum performance of the press or its supporting equipment.
Performs Clerical Duties –
1. Maintains accurate press records as required, including an accurate press ticket.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
1. Sees that a supply of miscellaneous items as maintained at the press. 2. Operates fire fighting equipment and directs crewmembers in combating press fires and returning the press to running condition. 3. Assist in training inexperienced people. 4. Performs special projects as assigned by the Supervisor. 5. Temporarily works in other occupations for which they are qualified when directed. 6. Performs miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Supervisor. 7. Potential to handle hazardous waste which requires annual RCRA Training.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Previous experience in the operation of a printing press or work in a printing environment preferred. Some experience in the operation of various hand tools including line gauge, loupe, plate wrench, blanket wrench, brush gauge, ink knife, chisel and punch preferred.
Qualifications:
Completion of apprenticeship program established for the occupation.

Good basic math skills. 6. High school graduate or equivalent desirable. 7. Must receive annual hazardous waste training. 8. Basic Windows skills
